Energy Efficient DDR3 Memory Modules by Samsung

Samsung has claimed to develop a new energy efficient DDR3 memory modules (known as RAM for typical PC users) using its 3-dimensional 30nm process technology. Engineering samples of the memory modules have now been released by Samsung for evaluation.
Using this technology means the new 30nm modules are not only smaller in size than 40nm modules previously used but also consume less energy, as much as 4.5 Watts per hour. There is about 30% energy saving in these new modules compared to regular 30nm modules.
With the cloud computing becoming popular and growing fast, these types of memory modules are an important development since with cloud computing (where the data center is not your own PC but another server holding and providing it), high speed and capacity servers are needed. These would consume a lot of energy if the hardware associated with them isn’t made energy efficient.
