Smartphone App That Helps Doctor Detect Cancer

Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston have developed a system to detect cancer in a patient that will save them from many painfully long tests needed otherwise.

The System
The small device kept near patient operates via a special app designed for diagnosis. A Micro Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (microNMR) chip which is just a small and compact version of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) measures the protein level which if indicate abnormal growth, indicate the cancer is building up inside the patient.

Does it Work Accurately ?
50 patients were tried with a success rate of 96%.

Out in Market ?
Not yet. There’s lot of factual research that needs to be put into these devices. They are based on the principle that unusual number of proteins is cancer which is not true all the times. Also the proteins they detect are sometimes short-lived and at times, this device might show a ‘temporary cancer’ in you.
