Porsche 911 Carrera GTS

t’s the final version of Porsche’s 997 sports car and they have named it 911 Carrera GTS. It would be some time before we get to see new generation 911 cars but till then, Porsche is sending out ‘teaser models’ like this one which are only a reflection of what’s coming next.

The car has characteristics which are a blend of Carrera S and GT3. But it’s only the start, as the time goes, we would see the evolution of an altogether new concept that is unique and improved in performance.

Centerlock Wheels
The car is available either in Coupe or Carbriolet layout with rear-wheel drive. The unique and newfront apron distinguishes it from other front layouts from similar cars with ‘web like’ front air inlets. The doors have “Carrera GTS” written on the bottom either in black or silver. The script is also present on the decklid, beneath the decklid and stainless steel doorsill plates. It’s also the only model to have 19″ centerlock wheels.

Engine
The car is powered by 3.8 litre flat six cylinder engine (no V configuration as you might encounter the most) that gives 400 hp and Photobucket310 lb-ft of torque in a rpm band of 4200-5600. The transmission that delivers it to rear wheels i 6-speed manual. However the car comes with an option of 7-speed PDK (click to read more about PDK from porsche website) dual-clutch transmission which though adds ~30 kg to the car weight but only minor performance gains. So it might not be worth to avail this option if performance is desired unless you care about fraction of second.

Performance Variation
All such cars come with ‘driving modes’ which allow the parameters like throttle to be varied as per requirement namely sport, comfort etc. This car also has a button that can put the car in sport mode making throttle response sharper and quicker, stiffen the suspension.
The sport+ mode offered with Sport Chrono Plus Package allows access to launch control program that enables car to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds compared to 4.6 with manual transmission. As we earlier suggested, PDK is worthy only few fractions of a second.
